Amazon Web Services plans Project Green, a data center campus of about 1,000 acres near New Florence in Montgomery County, Missouri, which Amazon and Gov. Mike Kehoe announced in June 2026 as a $10 billion investment. The campus would draw water from deep wells in the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer, and AWS says all 17 proposed buildings together would use about 50 million gallons of water a year. The advocacy group Preserve Montgomery County is suing the county and the Missouri Department of Economic Development, and in September 2026 a Cole County judge let most of the case proceed.
