About these terms

These terms apply to datacentercensus.com and to its embeds, feeds and data files (together, the “site”). The site is published under the name Data Center Census by AI Laws By State LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company (“we” or “us”). By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. How we handle personal information is covered in the privacy policy.

What the site is

The Census is an independent reference publication about major U.S. data center projects. Its records summarize and link to public documents and published reporting: government filings and meeting records, court records, utility filings, company statements and news coverage. Each fact names the source it comes from. Records are researched with AI assistance and checked against their sources, as the methodology explains.

How to read the records

• Labels are characterizations. Status labels (such as rumored, proposed, approved, cancelled or denied), counts, rankings and classifications such as “AI data center” are our editorial characterizations of what the cited sources show, as of the dates given. They are not statements about any company’s plans or intentions beyond what those sources say.
• Allegations are attributed. Descriptions of lawsuits, complaints, objections and issues raised report what parties, officials or residents have alleged or said, attributed to the cited source. They are not findings by us, and not findings by a court unless the record says a court has ruled.
• Early reports are unconfirmed. Rumored projects and watchlist entries rest on reports that have not been confirmed by a formal application or official record. They may be wrong, and many such projects never proceed.
• Figures are as published. Planned capacity, investment, jobs, water use and similar figures are reported as each source states them. Planned figures are not forecasts, and calculations on the site, such as household equivalents, are estimates that rely on the assumptions stated with them.

Nothing on the site is legal, financial, investment, tax, medical, engineering or other professional advice. Don’t make decisions based only on the site: check the linked primary sources, and consult a qualified professional where it matters.

Accuracy and corrections

We work to be accurate, but records can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and sources themselves can be mistaken. If you believe something on the site is inaccurate, please tell us: the corrections policy explains how we review and fix errors.

Independence and trademarks

The Census is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the U.S. Census Bureau or any other government agency, or by any developer, tenant, utility, company or advocacy group named on the site. “Census” describes our method of counting projects. Company and product names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.

Our content and license

Our original text, our compilation of records, and our maps, charts, images and code are © AI Laws By State LLC. We license the dataset and our original content under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0): you may reuse them, including commercially, if you credit “Data Center Census (datacentercensus.com)”.

That license does not cover third-party material. Short excerpts quoted from sources, the documents we link to, and third-party map data remain the property of their owners; we quote brief excerpts only to report on and verify the facts they support. Our summaries are written in our own words, and a source’s exact wording always appears in quotation marks with the source named and linked. Copyright concerns

If you believe material on the site infringes your copyright, email corrections@datacentercensus.com with the page address, the material concerned, your contact details and a description of your rights. We will review it promptly and remove or change material where appropriate.

Embeds, feeds and downloads

You may embed our widgets and use our feeds and data files under the license above. Keep the credit line visible, don’t present altered figures as ours, and don’t suggest that we endorse you or your work. We may change or discontinue embeds, feeds and files at any time. Please use the downloads on the data page rather than automated collection that places a heavy load on the site.

Links to other sites

We link to third-party sites so you can check our sources. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.

Disclaimer of warranties

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the site, even if we were told such loss was possible. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for all claims relating to the site is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to the site will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
