Hut 8 wants to build a 500-megawatt, $5 billion data center on about 200 acres of farm ground in rural Laenna Township near Latham, roughly 30 miles northeast of Springfield. Logan County's zoning officer deemed the land-use applications complete on June 29, 2026, after the state's attorney declared that a 12-month moratorium the County Board approved in May was invalid. In late July 2026 the Village of Latham called off an Aug. 3 vote on whether to annex and rezone the site, and county officials said technical mistakes in the applications meant they could be considered in September at the earliest.
