Fermi America plans a private-power AI campus on Texas Tech University System land northeast of Amarillo. The company says it will use 17 GW of power from natural gas, four proposed AP1000 nuclear reactors, and solar plus batteries. The project lost a prospective tenant in December 2025 and replaced its CEO in April 2026. In August 2026 it signed a $6.5 billion, 15-year lease with TensorWave for an initial 222 MW. The first gas turbines arrived in September 2026, and the NRC is reviewing the reactor license application.
