Dallas-based Compass Datacenters plans five data center buildings totaling 1.34 million square feet on about 333 acres on Stamey Farm Road in Statesville, with power from a nearby Duke Energy substation. The Statesville City Council approved the rezoning 8-0 in September 2025. The city says the previously approved project is exempt from a moratorium on new data center applications; the council adopted a 180-day moratorium on Sept. 14, 2026, which WBTV reports does not affect previously approved data centers.
