Meta is the company behind a large data center campus planned on farmland near Maysville in Mason County, Kentucky. The county rezoned about 2,080 acres in May 2026, and on October 13, 2026 the Fiscal Court unanimously approved a bond, a development agreement and road work with a Meta subsidiary; the county's attorney put the initial investment near $15 billion, while another outlet reported $10 billion. Opponents, including the group We Are Mason County, KY, have sued over the zoning, and Meta calls the approvals a first step.

Issues raised
- We Are Mason County, KY sued the county and planning commission, arguing the zoning plan does not address where or how many data centers can be built [7]; WCPO reports a further suit has since been filed [8]
- The $800 billion figure tied to the bond was called misleading by the county's attorney, who said it is not county debt because Meta bears the costs under a lease-back structure [1]
- Dozens of residents, including people in a mobile home park, are expected to have to move, and neighbors say $50,000 buyouts were offered [8]
- A historic cemetery on the site must be relocated [1]
- Meta's agreed community payments include about $115 million for water, wastewater and roads and $15 million for public safety [3]
Issues are concerns and claims raised by the parties, officials or residents named in the cited sources. They are reported as attributed, not as findings by the Census.
